Tips to form an envelope consist of the following: preparing the paper, sketching the shape of the envelope, creating the top and bottom flaps, making the side flaps, slicing it into shape, folding the side flaps, folding the base flap, gluing the bottom and side flaps together, and folding the top flap.
Whether you are into crafts or you just need a customized envelope for a special card, you will be surprised at how simple it's to make an envelope. You can make your own personalized envelope out of any printed papers or plastic. Check out this article to learn how to do it.
Prepare the paper
Choose what type of paper you want to utilize for the envelope. It could be printed, plain, colored, or white. You may also utilize vinyl to make vinyl envelopes. Then, position the material with its printed area towards the table and its empty side towards you. You also need to decide how large or small you want the envelope to be, and whether you need it to be square or rectangular in form.
Draw the form of the envelope
Whether you wish it square or rectangle, sketch the form of the envelope you want to create onto the paper. You should also base the measurement of the envelope on the size you want it to be and with allowance for the overlapping folds. For instance, you need to develop a three-inch square envelope, develop a four-inch square; and a six-inch square for a four-inch envelope. The same thing goes for rectangular envelopes.
Set up the upper and lower flaps
Now, create the bottom and top flaps of the envelope. To do this, select whether you want to start on the top or bottom of your envelope's shape, and then develop a triangle with 2 sides equal in length and the 3rd side is connected to the body of the envelope. Ensure that the height of the flap can reach above the core of the envelope, so it can overlap the opposite flap. Do the same procedure to the opposite flap, and ensure that its length can reach beyond the center of the envelope, also.
Develop the side flaps
Create the side flaps of the envelope by making triangles on each side of the envelope, wherein 2 sides are of identical sizes and the 3rd side is connected to the side of the envelope. Ensure that each of the flap's height measures a little more than one half of the envelope's thickness.
Cut it into shape
Grab a sharp pair of scissors and cut the envelope's outline. Make sure you follow the outline very carefully, so you do not cut through any areas of the envelope, including the flaps.
Fold the side flaps
Fold the side flaps, beginning on the left and right part of the envelope. Fold both flaps properly, and then get a bone folder and run this on the fold to make it clean and crisp.
Fold the bottom flap
Fold the bottom flap similar to the side flaps along its crease. After that, run the bone folder over it to create a clean fold.
Glue the side and bottom flaps together
Get a bottle of liquid glue and put a small line onto the 2 edges of the bottom flap that meet the side flaps. Attach the flaps together, and push the glued corners of the base flap, so it'll stick firmly on the side flaps. Eliminate any excess glue which comes out when you press the base flap.
Fold the top flap
Fold the top part flap along its crease just like the other flaps, and run the bone folder over it, also.
Don't forget to keep the top flap open. You can use glue or a lovely sticker to close the flap.
